Wannabee or Professional

Social networking seems to be in my orbit at the moment. I seem to find myelf talking a lot about what I'm doing, how I'm doing it, and whether it's working or not.

Tonight I was at the Victorian Chapter of the National Speakers Meeting, listening to a very interesting presentation by Gihan Perera. Below are my visual notes from this session. My takeaways:

  • Get Smart: Be clear about your expertise and your message.
  • Get Seen: Get an online reputation that drives people to your website. Some good tips for this. - Write book reviews on Amazon (then copy them into your blog), answer questions on LinkedIn (and then copy them into your blog)...oh, and create a blog!
  • Get Serious: Use online tools to get your message out there and make a difference. Wannabees are asking "Do have I have to get on Twittter and Facebook", or "How can I use these tools to make money?" Professionals are asking "How can I use these tools to make a difference?"

And...his big message.....Start before you are ready!
